u4gm How to Equip and Use Knife in Call of Duty Black Ops 7
#1
One of the first things you notice jumping into Black Ops 7 is that the old “panic knife” move, from past Call of Duty games, is gone. No more reflex jabs just by hitting the melee button while holding your gun. Instead, you actually have to switch to the knife before using it, and at first it can feel a bit odd. You catch yourself swinging your rifle like a bat instead of slashing. But give it a little time and it starts to click. It makes close combat feel more deliberate, and if you play with intent, it opens up tactical options in campaign stealth runs, when flanking in multiplayer, or even when you’re trying to squeeze out points in Zombies. With some practice, it can be a seriously rewarding mechanic. If that sounds like your kind of playstyle, you might also want to check out CoD BO7 Boosting to complement your setup.

On controller, swapping to the knife means holding down your weapon swap button — Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox — which pops up a little weapon wheel on-screen. Flick your right stick toward the knife icon and release. On PC, hitting “1” switches to your secondary, or you can hold “Q” for the same wheel. You’ll know you’ve pulled it out when your character puts the gun away and grips the blade. It’s worth noting you actually move a bit faster with the knife in hand, making rotations and quick flanks noticeably easier, especially if you pair it with mobility perks.

Once it’s out, you’ve got two main ways to attack. Tapping the fire button (R2/RT on console, LMB on PC) does a quick slash — great for finishing off someone who’s already hurt or snapping to an opponent that caught you off guard. Holding the fire button just slightly longer triggers a forward lunge. That’s the heavy hit and usually a one-shot kill in multiplayer. The catch? Miss, and you’re stuck in a short recovery where you’re wide open. That risk-reward makes it satisfying when you nail the timing but punishing if you whiff.

Think of the knife as more than just a backup when ammo runs dry. If you build your class around it, you can own close quarters. In multiplayer, combine it with perks that max your sprint speed and quiet your footsteps — suddenly you’re the ghost no one can hear coming. In Zombies, early rounds are all about the knife, saving bullets and racking up more points to unlock routes and perks sooner. Spending a bit of time in a private match just practicing swap speed and lunge timing pays off. Once muscle memory kicks in, you’ll be carving through tight spaces with confidence. For an even bigger edge, you could look into u4gm CoD BO7 Boosting to help hit those loadouts faster.
